(June 28, 2021) — IAT Insurance Group, a provider of specialty property/casualty and surety products, has hired Joseph R. Smith to serve as Senior Vice President, Property and Inland Marine Claims.

Smith comes to IAT after 25 years with Chubb, most recently as SVP, Field Property Claim Leader. At Chubb, he led a team of more than 225 people responsible for handling tens of thousands of personal and commercial claims each year and billions of dollars in claim payments annually.

Smith’s other roles at Chubb included managing its largest and most complex commercial and personal lines property claims. He also worked on niche markets such as builder’s risk, TPA, multinational, habitational, wineries, life sciences and high-net-worth homeowners.

Smith holds a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to his insurance career, he spent five years in the military as a Counterintelligence Officer for the U.S. Army.
